Born and raised in Southern California's San Fernando Valley.

I always had a fondness for the realism style and would explore tattoo magazines during my early years, amazed at the portraiture work by some of the great black and grey artists.

As my own tattooing skills progressed I realized that I found my niche with color realism. Constantly advancing, refining and polishing this craft keeps me extremely busy and motivated to continue climbing to the next level. A glimpse through my portfolio reveals my preference for "anything realistic;" notably, the array of wildlife, and portraits of movie stars & rock stars. While I do enjoy mixing things up and incorporating various aspects of the style I work within, it is certain that my forte will always remain within the realism genre.

In addition to owning and operating MD Tattoo Studio in Northridge, California, and  Memento Publishing, where we market, publish and sell books that encompass a passion for the artistic lifestyle. Continuing on that note, I co-own and help operate Reflected Art. I also keep busy as co-owner of Stencil Stuff, which is a company that offers Stencil Stuff and Spray Stuff, products that aid artists in achieving better tattoo results. The solutions are used by thousands of tattoo artists every day and I hope are a positive attribute to the tattoo industry. I am honored to be an award-winning artist, garnering approximately 130 awards in the first seven years that I have been tattooing. And the accomplishment I am most proud of is being happily married to my beautiful wife Serena, and a father to our awesome son, Kyle.

I cant remember a time in my life when art didn't play a role. When I was a young child my mother would draw figures of people and I'd draw faces and clothes on them. These were the earliest memories of art. All through grade and high school drew the days away, art classes were really the only ones that held my attention at all. After high school I wasn't really sure what to do so I took a few art classes at the local community college while working construction during the day. One evening an old friend Carson Hill invited me over to hang out. Carson had tattooed me in the past, and we admired each others drawings back in the day, so of course the conversation turned to how he was doing as a tattooist. Eventually he offered to teach me the craft and it sounded great. I worked construction by day and spent the evenings with Carson learning to tattoo. After about six months i started tattooing part time out of my home and after another six months i was tattooing full time. I worked next to Carson and his home studio for about a year and then worked in hollywood for a while. Eventually i started to work for my own studio in Newbury Park and started doing conventions to break the monotony. Which brings me to where I am now at MD Tattoos. As far as tattooing goes, I enjoy doing all different styles of work and focusing my talents on bio/ abstract art. I also enjoy painting with acrylic and oils. As for inspiration there are so many I could go on forever but to name a few there is Alex Grey, Guy Aitchison, Chat Czar, HR Geiger, and my friends Nathan Kostecko and of course Carson Hill. For the future, i plan on doing a lot of traveling while further honing my painting and tattooing skills.

I am Josh Duffy, art is my life, in every form possible. I love every kind of style of art there is, but mostly darker images and bio. Metal, tattoos, and art.

When I was a little one I really liked coloring books. In the 7th grade I took an art class and I realized i was hooked. I wasn't really good at anything else, so in high school I doodled on my notes in science, did all my friends art projects, and ditched a lot of my senior courses to hide in my art class. When I graduated I took on an apprenticeship with Mike DeVries and he taught me everything I know. I love the life I have ended up with and consider myself very lucky. I love my pug, blue is my favorite color and i have a fascination with bugs.

     I am merely a man; suffocated by art. I am a southern California native who loves life and all of the art in it. I grew up with a pencil in my hand and an unrelenting passion for illustration. Music has always been an important part of my life and continues to inspire all of my artistic endeavors. I am a self-taught tattoo artist. I did my first few tattoos in 2006 while studying art in college. After a bit of development and some real soul searching, I began tattooing full-time in 2008. Graphic realism and illustrative tattooing have become my main interest and focus in my work. I constantly strive to progress as an artist and I hope that it comes through in every tattoo that I do. The art of tattooing is sacred to me and I am honored to be a part of such an amazing community of artists. I grew up in Southern California and have been doing some form of art my whole life. I Started my apprenticeship with Mike DeVries at the end of 09 and have been loving the experience of tattooing. My favorite kind of art is darker and metal inspired with a Japanese twist.
